HAPPY HALLOWEEN

My friends called up this morning and said, "Let's meet for lunch and all dress up like witches."
I was totally in because a witch costume is the one costume I own.
I dressed MJ up like a black cat, so she could be my side kick.
Happy Halloween.
It is going to be a good day!

SICK DAY

Sierra stayed home from school sick today.
I am kind of giggling about it, because she never really acts sick.
It is hard to take her "sick" seriously.
She sounds croupy, has a cough, a sore throat, and a slight ear ache.
However, she has plenty of energy to run around and tease.
Kay invited us up to the farm to see Treasure's babies and despite how sick she was Sierra was eager to go.
Treasure is the Papa.
He is one of the baby chicks that Sierra helped raise.
The mother is Little Grey, also one of Sierra's chicks.
See here and here.
Look how much he has grown and now he has babies of his own.
We are hoping they survive the winter.
Kay is going to keep them in the green house and we hope it helps.
The girls also helped repair the rope swing and played on it for a bit.
It was hard to convince these girls to leave the farm but Sierra really needed some rest, so she can head back to school tomorrow.
Smiling.

LIGHT GERMAN PANCAKES

This morning as I rummaged through our local newspaper, I had an overwhelming feeling of being so blessed and so loved.
I know we are so very blessed.
I pray for our country and everyone out there who is struggling.
Light German Pancakes (Or as we call them Popeye Pancakes)

Pre-heat oven at 450 degrees.

Pam Spray

6 eggs
1c. milk
1c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

9x13 Casserole Dish

Blend in a blender 6 eggs, 1c. milk, 1c. flour, 1/2 tsp. salt.

Spray 9x13 casserole dish with Pam Spray. (It really is the best.)

Pour mixture in the 9x13 pan.

Bake 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

The real recipe calls for an obscene amount of butter and it is really yummy. On occassion I like that version, but as an every day staple I feel better about feeding my children these. They are every bit as yummy just less buttery.

TRUCK-or-TREAT

 Truck-or-Treat in Fruita.
Trucks line up around the civic center and you trick-or-trick from truck to truck.
They have police cars, ambulances, swat cars, classic cars and buses made into haunted houses.
The trucks are there from 10am-noon.
Exactly at noon, they sound off all their horns and alarms and drive away.
When we were there yesterday I kept thinking this would be so much fun to do with a little boy.
My girls loved getting candy but weren't interested at all in the trucks.
They were letting kids tour the trucks and set off the alarms and honk the horns, but the girls just wanted to get their candy and move onto the next truck.
In a couple of years it will be really fun to take my little boy.

My friend's children came with us and it was so fun to have her two girls look out for my two girls the whole time.
It lowered my anxiety level and made it fun.
Thank you girls!

It was Madison's first time really trick-or-treating.
She has been sick on Halloween every year but the year she was born which was a few days prior to Halloween.
She was so excited and said, "Mom, that was so much fun!"

 They made quite the haul.
Between truck-or-treat, trunk-or-treat at our church, trick-or-treat down main street, and Halloween night there is no end in sight to the candy.

I have always let my kids make themselves sick on candy. I have never regulated it.
Yes, and this philosophy from a dentist's wife.

I think it is good for kids to have a tummy ache after gorging on candy.
There is a lesson in that, that your kids can't learn by you regulating their candy.

This year I may have to alter that rule a little, especially if we participate in all the trick-or-treating opportunities.
They were a family of scarecrows, aren't they darling?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Remember this?
Well, we are done.
Lemon Meringue and Strawberry Shortcake.
Both of their outfits were thrifted or came from what we had around the house.
Sierra's hat came from my mother's dress up box from when we were kids.
Sierra's dress was an old lady's dress I found at the thrift store for a 1.00 and cut down to her size.
Her apron came from the thrift store for a dollar and I just doubled it over and added an extra button and button hole. Then added ribbon and lace for the straps.
I found the strawberry on Sierra's hat at the thrift store and super glued it on.
I made Madison's hat from old scraps of fabric I had on hand.
The flowers on the hat came from the thrift store for .50. She insisted we glue all of them on her hat even though the picture only has one on each side.
I bought the fabric for her dress at the thrift store for 2.00.
I had white tights for Madison but switched to green pants we had on hand last minute because it is so cold, same for Sierra.
Aren't they adorable?
Wish they would have smiled but Sierra had been teasing all morning and Madison just wasn't in the mood.

MOVIE NIGHT with MOMMY

Sierra, Madison, and I watched The Little Princess together.
Sierra cried at least three times during the movie.
During the end she was crying so hard she couldn't look at the screen.
And I couldn't look at her.
I felt bad.
It hurt my heart to see her so affected by the movie.
I cried with her.

She is such a sweet sensitive little girl.
I kept asking her if she wanted me to turn it off.
She said no and just hugged that cat of hers.
Can you see him all cuddled in her lap? He sat there like that, the whole movie.

In the middle of the show, Madison released a little gas.
It smelled bad.
I said, "That stinks. I don't like that."
She got a huge grin on her face and said, "Does baby brother like it?"
I said, "I don't think baby brother likes it."
With mischief in her eyes, she said, "I think he does."

WALKING to SCHOOL

I have renewed my dedication to walking Sierra to school and back.
The school isn't that far from our home and it is good for us to get out and breathe in the day.
I enjoy walking and it feels good to know that I still can get out and and walk at a brisk pace and on occasion jog when I have to keep up with my girls who both insist on riding.
Yeah, for a healthy body and a healthy pregnancy.

My girls love, love, love to ride their bikes to school and there is always a huge sigh of disappointment whenever I say, "We are taking the car."
You wouldn't believe how fast Madison can peddle that little Diego bike.
I tried to get her to switch to the bike Sierra has outgrown, but she loves that little cruiser.
I guess Sierra didn't switch to a bike till she was 5.

Madison literally giggles the whole way to the school. She loves it.
She did say it was coldy and we had to head back to the house twice to get a second layer and a hat.
But, then we were off.

She begged to play on the playground for a little bit when we got there.
We were early enough, despite both our little set backs, that she was able to play until the bell rang.

Sierra came out and she said, "I can't walk home without my coat it is freezing."
I asked her where her coat was.
She said, "I left it in the luchroom at lunch time." Then she continued on and on about why it got left in a dramatic flare that I could bearly understand.
Then she insisted we go back into the school to get it.
Sounds easy... but it isn't.
Her class is on the backside of the school. They lock all the doors so you can only enter from the front door. I had to be back later for parent teacher conference and asked if we could go home and I could pick it up later.
She chattered her teeth like she was in Alaska in her bathing suit and said, "But iiiiiit's sssso cold."
So, I took her around to the front of the school.
She slipped inside and found her coat and came back out.
Then she put it on for two seconds, maybe less, and took it off and handed it to me and said, "It's too hot to wear this thing."

URGH!

She wanted me to carry it but I told her, No!

Not sure what she was thinking here.

I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO READ!

Sierra was torching Madison.
She wanted to teach her how to read.
She insisted she learn every word now.
She would read her a long sentence and then ask her to read the next one.
When she got it wrong she wasn't kind.
She was telling her, "If you don't learn how to read, it will be bad, bad.
You will never get to pass out pillows for reading time, in second grade.
I get to, because I can read.
Other kids, nope."
When I seperated them because Sierra was being too controling, she desperately pleaded with me, "But she has to learn how to read mom!"
I told her I would take care of it.
Poor Madison, sometimes she has two mom's.

JOY and my BOY

My sweet friend Joy sent me some clothes for baby Gunnar.
I was so happy.
Mostly because I love her sweet boys and having Gunnar wear something they owned just makes me smile.
I can't believe how tiny baby clothes are.
REALLY? He is going to be that small.
How precious.

Some have asked where we came up with the name Gunnar.
Truth, I don't know if it will be his name.... however, I am pretty sure it will be.
We name all of our children after nature for their first name, which was not done on purpose but was a way of compromise.
Their second name is chosen from a living family member who we would like them to emulate.
Sierra is named after the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.
Madison is named after the Madison River in Yellowstone.
Gunnison may be named after the Gunnison River, which is where Nate blew out his knee.
I say may be because about two years ago Nate said, "If I have a son, I want to name him Gunnison."
I said, "Okay."
To me that solidified it, but....we really haven't discussed it since.

I asked him about a week ago, "Are you set on Gunnison being our son's name?"
He said, "No."
I giggled.
Communication.... really isn't the strongest part of our marriage.
Then I spent two days searching out boy names I liked.
I couldn't find one that I even kind of liked.
I am back to Gunnison and Gunnar for short, not that I ever left.

Thank you Joy! You made my day! Love and miss you.

MY SWEET MJ HAS GROWN

Madison one day old. She was the most beautiful baby.
Madison at age 1. I loved my little toddler.
Madison at age 2. She has milk all over her face. I love that little one dimple of her's.
Madison at age 3, with that same furrowed brow she was born with.
 Madison at age 4.

I can't believe she has only been apart of our lives for four years. It seems as if we were never without our little Madison.
She has grown up so much.
I have been with her every step of the way and yet, in a lot of ways she is a little mystery.

On occasion she is very shy and clings to my legs and then when I don't expect it she is bold and assertive.

Example: She would cling to me every time I dropped her off for nursery and shed a lot of tears and then she became a sunbeam. The first time I brought her to class she walked in and sat down and loved it and never asked for me once. Now she runs to Sunbeams every week and she asks me every Sunday if she can walk to sunbeams by herself. She gets really irritated if Sierra waits for her or tries to show her the way.

She likes to be called Madison and that is it. Don't call her Maddie, that is a weird name. She always stresses the D. She says, it is Ma-di-son not Ma-ti-son.

She follows her sister around and allows her to tell her what to play and who to be, but put her in front of some kids her own age and she is the boss, especially if the group is primarily little boys.

She is silly and likes to march to the beat of her own drum. In a lot of ways she is every bit as stubborn as her big sister but she does it in a silly way and not with her temper, which means she gets away with it a lot and most of the time I don't even realize it.

She is dedicated and works hard at any task I give her and she doesn't get distracted. Like, I can ask her to wash the dishes and she will sit there and wash them and stack them in the dishwasher and she will be a 100% focused.

She is my little sweet heart and she loves to cuddle with me ever day and she still wants to be held a lot although lately she seems to understand it is hard on me and she doesn't ask nearly as much. We do however, love to cuddle up each night and read before she goes to bed, and oh how she knows her bedtime routine. Don't even try to skip one step. She says every night, "First scripture power, then prayer, then stories, Mommy."

She is quite the little talker to whoever will listen. She will talk and talk and talk. She comes by it honestly but even I am impressed with her ability to prattle on and on.

She is so excited to be a big sister. The other morning she sat straight up in bed from her sound sleep and asked, "Where is my baby brother?" I said, "He was still in my tummy." She said, "Oh, I had a dream that he comed out and I thought it was real." She asks every day about him. She asks what he is doing and what he is saying. I always say he is saying, "I love Madison." She points to my tummy and says, "Is his bed here? Is his pillow here?" I just smile. She will kiss my belly and hug it and talk to him. I just think it is the most precious thing.

She has the most contagious giggle and she will giggle at practically anything. Nate loves her laugh and the first thing he does when he gets home from work is find her and tickle her. Her sister will do anything to get her to laugh, too.

I love this little girl so much she means everything to me and I can't even begin to express how blessed I feel to be her mother. She was a little angel sent down to us when we needed her most. When we needed a little soul to help us laugh. She is so sweet and so affectionate and her little hugs and kisses have helped soothe my soul many times. I feel so blessed to call her my little girl.

I love you Madison. I am grateful for all four years you have been mine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MJ!

She wanted to go out to lunch with her mommy.
She wanted the place to have a big slide.
Chick-fil-A was close and I love it.
I couldn't remember if it had a big slide or not, I am so glad it did.

Sister Kay brought her by two beautiful twin baby dolls.
I would have been so jealous, if I was a little girl.
Even still, I was a little jealous.
Sister Kay said, "I looked everywhere for twins. You have no idea. I went to half the stores in the valley."
I laughed. Sister Kay tells me every time she sees me that I am pregnant with twins and one has just been hiding in all my ultra sounds.
She won't be convinced that there is only one little boy in my womb.
Hilarious.
So, MJ had to have twin babies because her mommy is having twin babies..... not really. :)

This little girl got so giddy when we lite her candles and began to to sing happy birthday.
She was so excited.
Nate and I got her a Baby Rupunzel Doll.
Grandma and Grandpa McKnight sent her $10.00. She bought a Dora phone that is really abnoxious and she absolutely loves it.
The primary presidency brought her over a Noah's Ark Card game and a baggy of candy.
She was very spoiled.
She said as she was going to bed. I was so, so, so, so, spoiled.

THE YES! DENTAL OFFICE

Nate called me today and asked if I would work on putting together content for his website.
My brother is amazing and said he would work on the website as long as I got the content.
I have been lazy....
Well, maybe it is less laziness and more doubting my abilities to photograph something that I feel is really important, but after googling other dental websites, I felt a bit more confident.
Today, I was headed into town and stopped by the office and got some pictures for the website.
I just had a renewed feeling of gratitude again to my Father-in-Heaven.
We have been so blessed lately.
In countless ways.
Nate has his own practice... what?
How did that happen?
When did it happen?
I am still in shock.
He has two great employees and it is fun to go to his office and see him.
He has been very, very busy this month.
And we are thinking.... hoping... he is so close.... to drawing a salary this month.
Who does that?
Their third month in business?
He is an amazingly talented, hardworking, dentist, but that aside we know this miracle is beyond our abilities and is mostly an answer to hundreds of prayers and is the blessing of a merciful Father-in-Heaven
Did I say we feel blessed?
Well, we do!

Madison wasn't all that thrilled about helping me take pictures.
She kept begging and begging me to leave.
Silly girl.
